Performance Management - Who needs it?Realise your business Goals through Performance Management What is Performance Management? Performance measurement is a process of defining and specifying the measures and targets to be achieved if you are to meet your business goals, whether short, medium or long term. Your goals may be financial e.g. turnover, but your method of achieving it will most certainly involve numerous parts of your business, such as staff, customers, internal processes technology etc. Is it difficult and complex? It can seem complex, however a simple way to look at, is to think that you plant small sensors in your business at key important points. You set these sensors trigger when you plans are not achieving what you want. You monitor these regularly. If all the targets are met, great! you're on track, if not, the sensors also tell where to look and what to fix. As a business manager you will know where you key points of the business are. We help you set the performance measures. What are performance Measures? Take our example of CompuSystems (A computer hardware and support company). They know that their ability to respond to customer support needs is a key factor in their success. This would be a key area of performance to measure. 'A performance measure'. Is that it? No! There is more, but it would be too length to put it all down here. You can find out more. From time to time we present a 2-hour workshop on Developing your Performance Management Systems. In which we show you a simple system and tools for creating your own Balanced Business Scorecard. A Balanced Business Scorecard is the complete set of performance measures for your specific business. See a real one we prepared for CompuSystems Balanced Business Scorecard. Who needs performance management? Anyone you is not satisfied for their business to just 'tick' over. Anyone who is serious about achieving efficiency in their business. Anyone contemplating or intending to achieve serious business growth. Who uses Performance Management? All of the above. What are performance Measures? Performance measures are like little sensors in the most important areas of your business. Once you've set them you monitor them regularly.
